Ethics
People ethics are challenged every day. You tend to see people’s ethics challenged the most in a school environment. In school people like a use others work as their own and cheat on test. In matter of fact my ethics were challenged in school. A friend of mine was taking the same professor as I, just during different semesters. The professor had not changed the class syllabus too much. One thing that did remain the same was the big paper due at the end of the semester. My friend had not I done so well on the first couple of exams and needs this paper to do well in this class. The easy way out would be to just give my friend the paper. But ethically that is not right. After numerous times of my friend trying to convince me to me giving my paper to her, it did not work. Plagiarism is illegal. Because I strongly value my morals and ethics I did not give my friend my paper. My friend will never learn if she does not try for herself. At the end of the day, when your ethics are challenged it shows what type of person you are.

Our outlook on ethics is very similar. You even brought up similar points in regards to ethics as I did in mine. I really agree that as students, plagiarism is one of the most ethical issues we face in our academic careers. I also agree that giving someone the answers is nothing but cheating them out of the opportunity to learn.
ReplyDeleteI think that this type of situation makes it even harder to say no (at least for some people). I've never given anyone my work, but I know people I went to high school with would pass homework around because they didn't want their friends to fail or didn't want to compromise a relationship by not doing what their friend requested. I'm sure your friend wasn't too happy with you and I think some people run into trouble with this because they don't want to ruin a friendship.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% about peoples ethics being challenged on the day to day bases and I agree with your choice not to give your friend your paper I mean I will help out a friend with it but I cant see myself just giving them the paper I mean that could get you in just as much trouble as they did if they got cought.
ReplyDeleteIn the society we live in, peoples ethics will always be challenged. Valuing your morals is something that many people in our society today do not do, but it is necessary in doing well in your life.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with your post and what everyone else commented about. Its especially hard to say no to a friend but getting caught could affect not only their grade on the paper but their grade in the class and also their reputation with other professors. By not giving her your work, you did her a favor.
ReplyDeleteI absolutly agree that when you ethics are challenged it does show what kind of person you are. I think giving your friend the paper would not have been the right thing to do and it is unfair of your friend to ask that of you.
ReplyDeleteIts obviously not ethical to give your friend the paper, and definitely unfair for them to ask you that.. It just puts you in an unfair position, leaving you to choose between friends and morals. I've been in a few similar situations and its definitely hard to say no but the benefits by far outweigh the consequences.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely a good choice not giving your friend the paper. By asking you to do that, your friend was putting both of your reputations on the line, and not giving it to her was the right decision
